Belk Foundation Encourages At-Risk Students with Incentive Scholarships

The Belk Foundation provided $100,000 to CFEF for 13 local education foundations to name ‘Belk Scholars’ in targeted Belk communities throughout Florida. Take Stock in Children is a statewide program that challenges at-risk, low-income students in grades 6-12 to remain drug and crime-free and live up to their full academic potential with the guidance of a mentor and incentive of a college scholarship. The progress of each student is closely monitored and intervention strategies implemented as needed. ‘Belk Scholars’ were named in each of 13 CFEF member local education foundation members serving as lead partners for the program in Belk communities across Florida.

"The Belk Foundation believes that education is critical to our future.” said Johanna Anderson, Foundation Director of The Belk Foundation. "This program provides a proven model that encourages students to succeed in school. We are pleased to name Belk Scholars in Florida and look forward to watching their progress.”
