In 1984, the Florida legislature passed a law allowing school districts to create education foundations that would raise private funds for the public schools in their respective district. To create a professional alliance for the burgeoning education foundations throughout the state, in 1987, the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations was organized. Since that time, the Consortium has grown from a handful of members to almost 50 foundations.

The Consortium's mission and scope have grown, too. We have established fundraising standards that are used to raise the bar for K-12 development, we have initiated statewide and multi-district fundraising initiatives, we have secured matching funds for private, business donations to the foundations and we provide professional development opportunities for our members that allow them to share ideas, learn, and enhance their expertise in the field of nonprofit management.

As a 501(c)3, the Consortium is guided by specific bylaws and governed by an Executive Board of Directors. Membership in the Consortium is open to all pre-kindergarten through grade 12 district public school foundations or direct support organizations that provide financial support for public education. Regular membership shall include voting rights for one person or one vote per district.
